***THIS COURSE IS FOR HCC4 PERSONNEL ONLY*** Students must have 2 years of Full Time Law Enforcement Experience or Military Experience to attend the class. This course will require students to be outdoors and exposed to the elements of nature. Students should and are encouraged to prepare themselves by wearing appropriate, professional outdoor clothing that protects them from excessive ultraviolet light, heat, cold, and insects. Students should also properly hydrate the day before training and bring plenty of water with them throughout the course to stay hydrated. Rifle Ammunition is appropriate for range use only, and pistol ammunition in calibers 9mm, .40, .38, and .45 will be supplied for PCT.#4 Deputies for this course. **COURSE IS LIMITED TO ONLY HARRIS COUNTY CONSTABLE PCT 4 PERSONNEL REQUESTING COUNTY ISSUED RIFLES**
**AMMUNITION PROVIDED**
This course of instruction is designed to provide the front-line officer or detective with the basic knowledge needed to safely deploy the AR-15 style service rifle in patrol response situations where department policy recognizes the use of deadly force is appropriate with a rifle cartridge. This course is intended to act as an additional level of training above and beyond the training received for pistol qualification. Required equipment for the class is listed below and should be brought starting the first day of class. RIFLE: A semi-automatic AR15 CAR15 type rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO, having a minimum overall barrel length of 16 inches with A1/A2 type sights or equivalent back up irons sights, manufactured by a recognized manufacturer (no self-made or self-assembled firearms), and at least three magazines in 20 or 30 round capacity, and rifle sling. (Pistol caliber carbines or any AR15 style rifle/pistol having a overall barrel shorter than 16 inches will not be approved for this course). Iron sights are required. Optional Law Enforcement / Military grade combat optics or heads up display type aiming device (Leopold, AIMPOINT, Bushnell, Trijicon, Holosun, Eotech, etc.) in addition to iron sights are permissible (*iron sights must be useable with chosen optic*). A scope with no more than 5x power magnification is allowed (*iron sights must be useable with chosen optic*). Students are required to bring their uniform duty belt and primary duty weapon with a minimum of three magazines. RIFLE AND HANDGUN AMMUNITION WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE TRAINING DIVISION. STUDENTS MUST BE PRE-APPROVED BY THEIR CHAIN OF COMMAND TO ATTEND PRIOR TO REGISTRATION. SEE DEPARTMENT POLICY SECTION 15.10 FOR QUALIFICATIONS TO ATTEND COURSE. THIS COURSE IS OPEN TO PCT 4 DEPUTIES ONLY. Outside agencies will not be approved at this time. This course is approved for 32 TCOLE hours.
