Notes: Classroom Attire: Dress for a professional training environment. Appropriate classroom dress includes: Departmental uniforms, business casual attire, i.e.; collared shirts and pressed pants, jeans, or BDU style pants. No shorts, tee shirts, flip-flop style shoes, yoga style pants, or tank tops will be permitted unless otherwise instructed by Training Division personnel. Wearing of hats or caps in the classroom will not be allowed. Jeans with holes or tattered material will not be allowed.

Classroom Rules: Those attending class are restricted to the Classroom, Break Room, Restroom and outside Smoking area while attending class. The Training Division shares its location with several other Divisions and other Harris County Agencies, please be respectful when walking from the Classroom to unrestricted areas of the building. Please restrict personal phone calls to the breakroom or the smoking area. Cell phones must be placed on silent while attending class.

Attendance: Class attendance is an essential part of the education process, and participants in Precinct 4 courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. The courses requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirement, for example, a field exercise that cannot be missed.
Participants in a TCOLE credit course must complete the class in its entirety to receive TCOLE credit.
All Training Division personnel have the authority to enforce Training Division rules and dress code, regardless of rank, up to and including the removal from a course.

Law enforcement officers who enroll in this TCOLE mandated course will learn about using appropriate techniques to interact and communicate with drivers who are deaf or hard of hearing. They will receive practical training on how to effectively communicate by themselves but also learn when an interpreter may be required. As part of the course, officers will learn how to identify someone who is deaf or hard of hearing. They also will learn regulations for law enforcement agencies regarding deaf and hard of hearing individuals under the Americans with Disabilities Act. This course is approved for 4 TCOLE hours and meets the TCOLE requirements for Interacting with Drivers Who are Deaf/ Hard of Hearing #7887.
